Beim Super Tuesday (Buy-in $1.050) in der vergangenen Nacht waren immerhin 13 Spieler aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum unter den insgesamt 336 Teilnehmern zu finden, doch keiner von ihnen konnte sich ein Stück vom $336.000 großen Preiskuchen abschneiden. Ganz im Gegensatz zu den US-Amerikanern, die gleich sieben der neun Plätze am Finaltisch besetzt hatten und schließlich mit gcnmoo aus Countryside (US-Bundesstaat Illinois) auch den Sieger stellten.

Die Scandinavian Poker Awards werden in Zusammenarbeit mit den Fachzeitschriften Ace Magazine (Dänemark), Norsk Poker Magasin (Norwegen) und Poker Magazine (Schweden) veranstaltet. Dabei haben Internetnutzer die Möglichkeit, in insgesamt fünf Disziplinen die Kandidaten zu nominieren, ehe eine Jury schließlich die Gewinner bestimmt.
Unter den für 2008 Nominierten finden sich freilich durchwegs bekanntere Namen. In der Kategorie "Bester Livespieler" kann die Jury zwischen Superstar Gus Hansen (Dänemark), Trond Erik Eidsvig (Norwegen) und Christer Björin (Schweden) wählen. Auch in der Kategorie "Bester Onlinespieler" ist Hansen einer der Kandidaten. Alternativ stehen Stephan Kjerstad-Delegator (Norwegen) und Jonas Nebuchad Danielsson (Schweden) zur Wahl. In der Damenwertung dürfte Shootingstar Annette Obrestad (Norwegen) gegen Camilla Denning aus Dänemark und Michaela Johansson (Schweden) turmhohe Favoritin sein. Als "Rookie Of The Year" (Bester Nachwuchsspieler) kommen der Däne Sören Kongsgaard, der Norweger Trond Erik Eidsvig und der Schwede Johannes Korsar in Betracht. In der Kategorie Performance ist sicherlich Kongsgaard heißester Kandidat, dicht gefolgt von Annette Obrestad (Norwegen) und dem Schweden Anders Henriksson.

American Poker Pro Jason Potter did not had so much time to enjoy his winnings at the Aussie Millions (he finished 31^st). He lost all his money in a very tragically way. At night and with $ 30.000 cash in his pockets, Potter (who is born in Tulsa, Oklahoma) left the Crown Casino in Melbourne, made a ‘Pit stop’ at McDonalds and wanted to go straight back to his Hotel (just 500 meters away). Unfortunately the heavy weighted Pro did not get this far. Just a few steps before he reached the fast food restaurant, an unknown person hits him something over his head and furthermore put out his knife. The ‘gangster’ goal-directed grabbed in Potter’s pockets and stole the complete $30.000 bucks.

It’s hard to believe that when the World Series of Poker began back in 1970, there were fewer than 50 poker tables in the entire city of Las Vegas. There were only 70 poker tables in the whole state of Nevada. Binion’s Horseshoe, the host casino, did not even have a poker room. The contest that would come to decide poker’s first world champion was held inside an alcove about the size of an ordinary hotel room. Thirty or so gamblers shoehorned themselves around a few poker tables. They didn’t know it at the time, but they were making poker history.
The WSOP is a month event happen in the great city of Las Vegas, Nev. They cover every poker style during the month ranging in buy-ins from $1000 - to the $50K horse championship that could be said to gather the best all around poker player in the world!
